SP-PR-21-01 Introduction to Project Management

1. Introduction

This procedure provides an overview to the way Symmetrical Group manages its projects and the phases it breaks the projects down to. These phases are as follows:

Phase 1 – Scope and Budget/Estimate

Phase 2 – Contract Award

Phase 3 - Launching Project

Phase 4 – Pre-Mobilisation

Phase 5 – Mobilisation & Installation

Phase 6 – Commissioning

Phase 7 – Project Close Out

Each of these phases has its own section in the procedure and describes what should be achieved at completion of each phase.

2. Purpose of the Manual

The purpose of this procedure is to provide information on the Project Process, supporting systems and reference material.  It is aimed at providing a consistent framework for project management from scoping, pricing, execution, commissioning to closing the project out.  It is recognised that each project will have different circumstances that will require discretion to be exercised.

The Manual has been written so that it:

Clarifies roles and accountabilities of Key Stakeholders including Project Managers and End Users;

Ensures the Clients required outcomes are understood, clearly documented and achieved;

Provides a guide to project planning;

Integrates essential control mechanisms to ensure the project is ready to move into the next phase; and

Maximises the probability of a project finishing safely, on time, on cost and to specification.

3. Definitions
