MANAGEMENT AND EXECUTIVE\EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND PREPARATION
SG-PR-41-01 Procedure for Emergency Response
This Emergency Response procedure has been designed for the guidance and information for employees, contractors and visitors. During an emergency, all personnel may have to be evacuated. These procedures have been designed to enable the safe evacuation of all personnel and it is mandatory that these procedures are actively supported and adopted by all Symmetrical Group employees, visitors and contractors.
This guideline is to provide suggestions and recommendations for the requirements for an Emergency Response, Prior planning / preparation is essential in dealing with emergencies. The identification of likely emergency situations and development of contingencies will assist in the managing of the situation and minimising the impacts.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
The following processes and practices are the minimum acceptable standard for inclusion in the Symmetrical Group Emergency Response Plan.
DOCUMENTATION:
All procedures are to be collated into a Manual, to be controlled by the Office Manager and readily accessible to the office staff.
Procedures are to be controlled documents.
Procedures should be concise, with a checklist to assist in the implementation under emergency conditions.
Wherever practical, the procedures should be person-independent - that is, allow for the same action to be undertaken by a range of people – to cater for backshifts or personnel absences.
An emergency alarm notice and office evacuation plan shall be posted in prominent locations within the reception and office areas.
COMMUNICATION:
Emergency contact numbers for Fire, Police and Ambulance shall be posted in a prominent location within the reception area. Appendix A
TRAINING:
All staff shall be made aware of the procedures at initial induction and training provided by way of regular drills.
Full evacuation drills should be held every 12 months.
It is recommended at least 2 persons normally working the majority of their time within the office shall be trained in First Aid to St John Senior First Aid Certificate or equivalent.
INSPECTIONS:
Half yearly inspections shall be undertaken to verify the condition of:

The most senior person within the office should assume control and implement the procedures.
In any emergency, “PROTECTION OF LIFE IS PARAMOUNT” – every measure must be taken to prevent injury to personnel and only then consider protection to property.
DUE DILIGENCE:
Whenever there is the decision to:
A due diligence process should be undertaken.
This means that a risk assessment of the impact of any changes should be undertaken or a comprehensive inspection undertaken of the facilities. This process should be undertaken by a suitably-trained person, prior to the decision to proceed with the changes.
Muster points must be selected with due regard to access, direction of prevailing winds (need to be upwind of smoke) and ability to control personnel movement.
